Making sure your paddle is properly adjusted for your height is vital to ensuring a great paddling experience. Before adjusting, be sure that you are on a flat surface with bare feet.

Getting on your board can be intimidating the first few times. The tips here will help as you become more experienced with the basics of paddling and alleviate any stresses while getting on your board.

The best way to get on to your feet is to begin on your knees and work up to being on your feet.

Keep in mind: The carry handle is the center point of the board. Your feet should replace your knees once fully transitioned. Place your hands on the board and position your paddle perpendicular to the board right on the deck. Keep your feet wide for added balance. Bring your hand to the top of the paddle and begin paddling. You can always come back to your knees if you begin to feel unstable at any point (boat wake, surf etc.)

Knowing the multiple paddle strokes and basics can help ensure you maximize the potential of your board.

A few quick pointers: Hinge at the hips to bury the blade fully in the water. Stop your stroke at your feet. Paddling is a full-body movement, not an arm movement. Be sure to have your paddle perpendicular to the board (straight up and down) while paddling forward and backwards. When turning (sweep strokes) be sure your paddle is parallel. To sweep stroke, paddle in the shape of a "C" until you turn in the direction you'd like to go.
